HAVANA, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- Cuba once again surpassed 3,000 daily COVID-19 infections, after recording 3,336 cases and one death in the last day, bringing the accumulated caseload to 992,125 infections and 8,332 deaths, the Ministry of Public Health said Friday.
In its daily report, the ministry also noted that there were 14,037 active cases, the highest figure in recent months.
The province of Las Tunas led the daily count with 326 new infections, followed by Holguin with 284 and Ciego de Avila with 259.
The Caribbean island country is carrying out an accelerated vaccination program against COVID-19, with almost 10 million of Cuba's 11.2 million people fully vaccinated, according to the latest Health Ministry data.
At the same time, over 3 million people have received a booster shot.
The program is using the Cuban-made vaccines Abdala, Soberana-02, and Soberana Plus.
