HAVANA -- The Colombian government wants to resume peace talks with the National Liberation Army (ELN) guerrilla in the Cuban capital, Colombia's Foreign Affairs Minister Alvaro Leyva said here Thursday.

"We hope to resume dialogues with ELN in this land of peace to begin the road proposed by President (Gustavo) Petro Urrego to achieve total peace," said Leyva, who visited the Caribbean country with an official delegation to contact ELN leaders. (Cuba-Colombia-ELN-Talks)

LONDON -- Britain's gross domestic product (GDP) is estimated to have fallen by 0.1 percent in the second quarter (Q2) of this year, said the country's statistics authority on Friday.

"Health was the biggest reason the economy contracted as both the test and trace and vaccine programs were wound down, while many retailers also had a tough quarter," said Darren Morgan, director of economic statistics from the Office for National Statistics (ONS). (Britain-Economy-GDP)

COLOMBO -- Sri Lanka's Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said Friday that the state-owned electricity producer Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) owes 137.9 billion rupees to independent power producers and the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation.

The minister said that the CEB owes renewable power producers 28.5 billion rupees, thermal power producers 76.8 billion rupees, and rooftop power owners around 1 billion rupees. (Sri Lanka-Electricity)

TEHRAN -- The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Friday the U.S. "fabrication of stories" about a "politically bankrupt element, a known terrorist and a coup plotter" against independent states is a "deceptive bid to escape international responsibilities."
