DOHA, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- Spain topped Group E at the Qatar World Cup on Wednesday night after beating Costa Rica 7-0 to claim their biggest ever World Cup finals win.
Spain controlled the game from start to finish against a rival that failed to have a single shot, either on, or off target.
Dani Olmo produced a moment of magic to open the scoring in the 11th minute after a pass from Pedri, and Marco Asensio doubled the lead with a left foot pass in the 21st minute after an assist from the impressive Jordi Alba.
Alba was fouled in the Costa Rica area on the half hour mark and Ferran Torres calmly sent Keylor Navas the wrong direction to add Spain's third.
Torres' second of the night made it 4-0 in the 54th minute and 18-year-old Gavi volleyed a spectacular fifth in the 74th minute, becoming the country's youngest scorer in the World Cup finals.
Nico Williams set up Carlos Soler to make it 6-0 in the 90th minute and Alvaro Morata added the seventh in injury time.
